B&K has beaten rivals Vinci, Simons and Buckingham to the job to build one of the UK’s biggest warehouses.
The 400,000 sq ft “Customer Fulfilment Centre” will be built on 35 acres of land at Birch Coppice Business Park close to Junction 10 of the M42.
Construction will start next month.
B&K Regional Director, David Horton, said: “I am over the moon to be working for a client such as Ocado. We are now the main contractor on the two largest and most prestigious end-user distribution centres being built in the UK– the other being at Bridgwater in Somerset.
“This will add to our reputation as an expert in the distribution field and is testament to the efforts and dedication of all our staff who work hard to ensure client satisfaction.”
Ocado’s Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Bracey, added: “We are delighted to have started work on our second customer fulfilment centre. Bowmer & Kirkland’s vast knowledge and expertise will help us ensure that this innovative project – the next big phase of Ocado’s development – keeps firmly on track.
“Ocado continues to grow quickly and this new site, with its excellent transport links and local resources, will allow us to deliver a quality online service to more customers than ever before, as well as create a significant number and range of jobs. We’re thrilled at the prospect of becoming a major employer in the region.”
