Ambulance crews were called to the site near Kneeton, off the A46, on Saturday morning where a 25-year-old man was trapped under a digger.
He was taken to Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre by air ambulance and is being treated for serious leg injuries.
The Health and Safety Executive has started an investigation.
The man is believed to have been working on a road widening scheme between Bingham and Newark.
The A46 was closed for a time to allow the air ambulance to land but has now reopened.
