McGlasson had been freed by colleagues by the time paramedics arrived but had suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The incident happened at 7.40 on Friday morning
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “An investigation into the circumstances around Martin McGlasson’s death is ongoing by the police and the Health and Safety Executive.”
Keith Denham, managing director of Thomas Armstrong, which owns ACP Concrete, said: “This is a black day for everybody at the firm.
“He was polishing up the staircase and it was standing on its side and we have no idea how it has fallen over.
“We have never had anything like this happen to us and it is my worst nightmare if something like this happens.
“It is an absolutely tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family.”
