Balfour, Costain and Murphy in £25m Crossrail race

Crossrail has unveiled its shortlist for the design, installation and commissioning of its £25m central section Traction Power system.

Work will involve construction of feeder stations to convert power from the national grid for Crossrail overhead lines.

The three groups on the shortlist are:

AC Joint Venture (Alstom Transport and Costain Limited)
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Limited
Rail Power Joint Venture (Siemens PLC and J Murphy & Sons Limited)

The contract is expected to be awarded in spring 2013.

Four high voltage auto transformer stations will be built at Westbourne Park, Stepney Green, Custom House and Plumstead.

Separate contracts will be let for high-voltage supply and tunnel fit-out which includes the installation of power equipment in the tunnels.
