Four fire crews and 21 firefighters managed to contain the blaze at Old Bush House – the former home of the BBC World Service.
The site is currently being converted into the “Aldwych Quarter” mixed-use development.
London Fire Brigade said: “Crews managed to contain the fire to a diesel tank on the roof of the eight storey building.
“A hundred construction workers left the building before the Brigade arrived.
“The Brigade was called at 0924 and the fire was under control by 1028.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation
