The works include the extension and refurbishment of Upton Cross Primary School, Portway Primary School and Calverton Primary School.
The Portway Primary School project will see the construction of a two-storey block extension featuring ten classrooms and a new learning resource centre.
Upton Cross Primary School is to be substantially expanded from a one and a half form entry school located on one site, to a five form entry school based over two sites. The project will also see work carried out to modernise and improve external learning and play areas.
A new single-storey extension containing eight classrooms and a special education needs room will be built at Calverton School as well as refurbishing the existing school block.
Councillor Quintin Peppiatt, executive member for children’s services, said: “Our multi-million pound Primary School Expansion Programme will have provided an additional 10,000 primary school places between 2008 and 2015 by expanding popular schools and also by the provision of some new schools.”
All three projects are due for completion in time for the start of the autumn term in 2014 and the construction work has been phased and planned to keep everyone safe and minimise disruption to staff and pupils.
Adrian Barnes, area director of Morgan Sindall’s London office, said: “Increased pressure on local schools to provide spaces for a growing population is a key issue across the South East.
“Newham is London’s fastest growing borough and we are pleased to be working with the council to deliver these facilities to ensure they can meet this growing demand.”
The Newham projects were bid under the £1bn Improvement and Efficiency South East framework.
