Joint owners Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors plan to double the size of the city centre shopping complex with the 700,000 sq ft extension, which will be built over an existing car park.
This will house extra shops, 15 restaurants and a multiplex cinema in the heart of the city centre. Already Marks & Spencer has signed up to anchor the Buchanan Galleries extension, which is scheduled to open in 2017.
The existing 600,000 sq ft shopping centre, which houses 90 shops, will also be refurbished as part of the plan.
The existing 2,000-space car park will be demolished to make room for the new complex and a new multi storey car park built at Queen Street Station together with a connecting link bridge
The project has just been put out to public tender by the Buchanan Properties joint venture because it is receiving some public funding for public realm improvements.
Gleeds’ Glasgow office is agent for the scheme and will select around five contractors to bid the project. Firms have until 10 January to complete a PQQ.
