Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has received planning approval for a major £60m store in Sheffield.

The latest approval is the second of four planned stores to get the green light.

IKEA  is preparing to sanction the start of construction work on a new store in Reading, where R G Group is expected to be named contractor.

It also has outline approval for a 350,000 sq ft store on Greenwich Peninsula in London and is presently working up detailed plans for submission.

Outline plans have also been approved for a fourth store in Exeter along with 220 new homes.

The 400,000 sq ft Sheffield store will be built near the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield would create a further 200 construction jobs.

Local firm Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson are architects in the superstore project, with Leeds-based BWB Consulting carrying out infrastructure consultancy.
