The project awarded under the Highways Agency’s Major Projects Framework will run on adjacent sections of the M1 from J28 – 31 and J32 – 35a.
The M1 J23 to 31 deal is the last of the four schemes that were brought forward to test more speedy construction by the government two years ago.
This batching together of the two project running from Chesterfield to near Rotherham is expected to bring cost savings in economies of scale as the motorway is converted to hard shoulder running.
Costain will be able to effectively manage road space between them and reduce disruption to road users.
The work follows on from the central reserve barrier replacement work which is already underway on these sections of the M1.
Work will commence immediately and complete in early 2017.
