Known as the Copperas Hill development, the £70m project will involve converting the disused postal sorting office near the Lime Street railway station into a central teaching, library and sports facility.
The building extends to 300,000 sq ft over several floors and includes offices, storage and a loading area.
Its redevelopment will be pivotal in the regeneration of the surrounding area resulting in the creation of improved streetscapes, upgraded highways, landscaping and new open spaces.
Work is expected to start on site early in 2016.
Connected University Village
The University plans to redevelop the site as part of a vision to develop a connected campus by locating all students and staff in the city centre. Copperas Hill will be the heart of the University and a front door to the Knowledge Quarter of the city. It will be pivotal in the regeneration of the area surrounding Lime Street resulting in the creation of improved streetscapes, upgraded highways, landscaping and new open spaces.
