A total of £18m is being invested in the hotel, which will become Scotland’s third Motel One when it opens as well as the largest in the region, taking the title from the near-by Jury’s Inn on Jamaica Street which currently has 321 rooms.
The 374-bed hotel, bar and restaurant will be built on the corner of Oswald Street and Argyle Street, next to Central Station and the international finance services district.
Stirling-based construction firm Ogilvie was up against hotel specialist McAleer & Rushe for the job, which is the last of a batch of four planned Motel One’s with schemes just opened or under construction in Manchester, London and Newcastle.
It is the builder’s second job for Motel One having completed the £11m 10-15 Princes Street hotel in Edinburgh for the German group.
