The new homes will be part of Lendlease’s regeneration project Elephant Park, in Elephant & Castle.
The 15 properties will be the first homes in London’s zone one designed to Passivhaus standard.
Lendlease said they will “combine Victorian townhouse style with the world-leading energy-efficiency standard Passivhaus.”
It added: “The classic Victorian style home remains a staple of central London neighbourhoods, and being able to successfully integrate advanced Passivhaus standards in a classic design is a significant milestone for the industry.”
The construction process includes cross-laminated timber (CLT) as a greener alternative to concrete or steel structural frames.
Dan Labbad, Lendlease’s Chief Executive Officer, International Operations, said: “Futurehome marks a significant milestone in how technology and design have evolved in recent years.
“For the first time in London’s zone one, we have used cutting-edge construction methods to bring the highest energy-efficiency standards together with traditional aesthetics.
“As the only UK project in the C40 Cities Climate Positive Program, Elephant Park is set to be one of the most sustainable major urban regeneration projects in the country.
“Our progress is built on 60 years of continually asking how we can do better. It is this ambition and tenacity that has led to our track record in social and environmental sustainability.”
