The £250m Centre for Music project would create a new home for Simon Rattle’s London Symphony Orchestra on a site currently occupied by the Museum of London.
Backers of a new concert hall in London – The Barbican Centre, London Symphony Orchestra and Guildhall School of Music and Drama – are working in partnership to develop plans.
The design work to build a business case is now being funded by the City of London Corporation after the government withdrew support from the scheme last year.
Pre-qualification documents have now been issued on the CapitalESourcing website for an architect, civil and structural engineer, building services engineer, acoustic consultant and theatre consultant, each being procured independently.
The proposed site for the music centre will be freed when the Museum of London completes a £250m move to a bigger and more accessible site at London’s Smithfield Market.
