The outline planning application for 1,400 homes also includes 1,200 sq m commercial space, an hotel, primary school and nursery, as well as a pedestrian footbridge.
Full planning permission is being sought for phases one, two and three of the Rochester Riverside development, which will see the construction of 489 homes.
The 21 hectares brownfield site stretches from Rochester Bridge in the north to Doust Way in the south and is a flagship project in Medway Council’s regeneration programme.
Andy Fancy, Operations Director at Countryside Partnerships South said: “Rochester Riverside is a crucial component in Medway’s regeneration plan, which is delivering quality homes and much-needed amenities for local residents.”
David Gannicott, Group Business Development Director at Hyde said: “This is a great opportunity to help tackle the housing shortage in the south east and ultimately will provide more people with a roof over their head so they can make a home.”
