The new framework is divided into three value bands with 22 lots, paving the way for far more firms to gain places on the new panel of preferred contractors.
Across the sweep of the framework Kier did best picking up 14 lots, followed by Bowmer & Kirkland with a dozen and Keepmoat nabbing nine lots.
Skanska and Rydon missed out this time round after picking up several lots in the previous regional framework set up.
Nigel Brook, Kier director, construction and infrastructure services, said: “We delivered over £700m of projects through the previous framework and are looking forward to working with education providers to deliver vital schemes over the next four years.”
The new panel replaces the previous national and regional frameworks, which came in for criticism for being too main contractor heavy and later suffered for having a limited choice of pre-tendered firms as the recovery saw big builders turn down opportunities to bid for smaller school schemes.
In the top value band for projects over £12m, the line-up of contractors remains much as before.
But on smaller lots regional players like Aura Newcastle, Barnes Construction, Borras, Diamond Build, Net Zero Buildings, Stepnell, Speller Metcalfe and T&B Contractors have got a foot in the door.
The framework will operate for a period of up to four years from 27 November 2017.
