Glasgow seeks firms for £242m roads deal

Glasgow City Council has started the hunt for firms to deliver a £242m pipeline of roads, bridges and lighting work across the city.

The new arrangement will come into force from 1 May 2019, with contracts running for three years. Successful firms could also be used by North Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire councils as part of a partnership arrangement between the local authorities.

Packages include road surfacing and treatments for pavements, and streetscaping contracts.

Bridge maintenance and other structural work is available as well as work on repainting lamp posts and some restoration to older heritage lamp posts.

Councillor Susan Aitken, council leader and convener for inclusive economic growth, said: “These major contracts will bring jobs and opportunities for local people and organisations to work on projects that improve Glasgow’s economy in the short and long-term.

“I invite all those interested in bidding for these contracts to visit the procurement website.”

Firms can express an interest on the Public Contract Scotland website.
