The firm is now in the hands of administrators from Opus Restructuring LLP who took control of the company earlier this week.
Most of the 50-strong workforce are understood to have been made redundant.
Helm had been trading since 2014 and latest accounts for the year to March 31 2017 show it owed £1.3m to trade creditors.
The company was still recruiting up until October when it took on a new contracts manager.
Helm was a keen supporter of local sport sponsoring Bristol Rugby’s fly-half Ian Madigan and owning a box at Bristol City.
