Diamond cutting machine can speed-up cable laying

A new diamond trenching method claims to boost the speed of cable laying by up to five times.

Specialist Nextec has developed the system in its domestic Swedish market and is now looking to launch in the UK.

Its machine replaces a traditional microtrenching carbide cutting wheel with a diamond blade.

Nextec said its machines make a “surgical” cut in the road allowing up to 300 metres of cable to be put down daily with the asphalt reinstated the same day.

Nextec added: “Another benefit is that the cut is so narrow (just 24-30 mm wide) cars and people can pass over the open trench without problem so there is no need to rent expensive heavy traffic management material or close any roads.”
