Murphy wins £10m cabling job for wind farm

Civil specialist Murphy & Sons has won a £10m contract to connect power from a offshore wind farm near Skegness to a substation in Lincolnshire.

The firm will construct and test 72km of cabling for the onshore section of the project to the at Sutton Bridge substation.

Principal contractor Siemens Transmission & Distribution awarded the job to Murphy, which is scheduled to complete in August 2011.

The generated electricity from the 270MW wind farm will be exported via cables to a new 132kV/400kV substation adjacent to the existing National Grid substation at Walpole, Kings Lynn.

Murphy will manage the project from its Dinnington office.
