The 120,000sq ft store is the first of a wave of new-look stores that will be designed by leading architects and is planned to be built to the east of the city centre.
Award-winning architect Mangera Yvars fought off over 130 competitors to design the plans to regenerate the 35-acre Eastside regeneration zone, which will also encompass 35,000 sq ft of office space.
The plans also include a multi-storey car park, cafe and a community centre, making it the biggest Tesco development in the East Midlands.
Tesco spokesman Tony Fletcher said: “It has generally been acknowledged that Nottingham would benefit from a large food store.
“Nottingham Eastside has been widely billed as a development that will bring forward high quality residential and commercial design.”
