The workers are the first victims of parent company Renew’s decision to withdraw from the north of England which was announced yesterday.
Allenbuild is a general contractor in the north west which has relied heavily in the past on public sector contracts.
Renew Holdings’ group finance director John Samuel told the Manchester Evening News: “Since the onset of the recession in 2008 the market for this type of regional general contractor has become much more difficult.
“We have downsized the business on two occasions previously and unfortunately have not been able to get it to a level where it can sustain profitable work.
“The dynamics of the marketplace for this type of work are unlikely to change for some time. Public sector spending cuts are a factor.
“It is very disappointing, but it is unviable to continue supporting a business that is unable to secure tenders at a profitable level.
“It is a casualty of the current economic climate.”
Allenbuild’s 60 staff in the north west will be made redundant between now and the end of July as its current contracts are completed.
