Spy-in-the-sky cameras recorded details barcoded on show badges of everyone who visited Caterpillar as the company bids to build a sophisticated database of all its customers.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Doug Oberhelman said: “We want to think like our customers and recording of information helps us to achieve that.”
Caterpillar staff have been issued with iPads as the data collection from the show builds up profiles for the firm’s management which will be helpful to its dealer network.
Oberhelman said: “Dealers are at the heart of our display here at Conexpo.”
Caterpillar said it is anticipating growth in all of its global markets next year as the sector continues its recovery from recession.
Oberhelman said: “Things are picking-up everywhere and we have high expectations.
“Contractors with us today are stronger than ever and our dealers are ready to go and ready to invest again.”
The bullish message was reflected in Caterpillar’s strong presence at the show where a host of new models were launched including the The Cat K Series midsize wheel loaders—ranging from the 950K to the 980K.
