Chancellor George Osborne confirmed in today’s Budget that infrastructure and public building schemes with agreed funding will be detailed in a quarterly update.
The new update for contractors will be launched at the same time as the National Infrastructure Plan giving a detailed analysis of future projects.
A government source told the Enquirer: “This is designed to help contractors react quicker to future opportunities because they will have more up to date detail on when and where money is going to be spent.”
The announcement came as another £100m was confirmed to fix potholes but latest Treasury figures reveal a dramatic drop in transport spending during the next five years.
Spending plans confirmed by Osborne show that transport spending this year of £5.2bn will fall to £4.4bn by 2014/15.
The extra pothole cash to fix the country’s crumbling roads is in addition to a similar £100m investment announced in February.
The earlier announcement was described as “too little too late” by many civil engineers who want to see a complete modernisation of the network.
