Scotland’s largest police force has been operating out of a former college building in Pitt Street since 1975 but has been described as no longer fit for purpose.
Contractors will be asked to submit two bids. The first is for a standard design and build contract for the new five storey 12,500 sq m building.
The second option being looked at is for the successful firm to develop or sell the old force headquarters as part of the new-build project.
The new headquarters will be built at South Dalmarnock alongside the River Clyde and will house 800 people and provide 200 car parking spaces once completed.
Basic designs for the building incorporate three internal glazed atria. It is anticipated the foundations of the building will be piled, incorporating a suspended concrete floor slab.
Turner and Townsend is acting as agent for Strathclyde and has given firms until 30 May to submit PQQs for bidding to start on 18 July. Further information can be obtained from paul.crichton@turntown.co.uk or by calling 01412487728.
