Site hoarding crashes into Network Rail office meeting

Network Rail managers had to dive for cover when a site hoarding came crashing through their meeting room window.

The meeting was taking place in offices by York station, next to a Miller Construction site where demolition contractors were clearing buildings to make way for a new hotel at Toft Green.

But the meeting was suddenly broken up as a site hoarding panel came crashing through their office window.

Miller Construction is now carrying out investigation into how the fencing and hoardings came to crash into the building during demolition.

A spokesman for Hudson House told The Press local paper: “There was a Network Rail meeting taking place, someone saw the material coming towards the window, and warned everyone in the room, and they all got out of the way before it broke.

“We will be completing an incident report and hopefully meeting with Millers’ site manager later this afternoon.”

A spokesperson for Miller Construction, said: “I can confirm that works we were undertaking to demolish an existing building on the site of the new hotel at Toft Green has resulted in a window being broken at Hudson House.

“Debris from the demolition process caused the temporary protection barrier to push against a window in Hudson House resulting in the glass becoming damaged.

“Fortunately no one was injured as a result and a full investigation into the cause of this incident is being carried out with immediate effect, the window at Hudson House is being replaced today.

“Health and Safety is a top priority for Miller Construction and we apologise to the occupants of Hudson House for any inconvenience this incident may have caused. “
