The first phase of construction could begin early next year and see the supermarket chain build its new superstore.

In the second phase, the town’s current Tesco supermarket will be demolished to build a hotel, restaurant, public house and car showroom.

Sainsbury’s are also developing a neighbouring store at Hardwick on a separate site.
