It is the sixth business bought by the fast-growing construction group in the Tees Valley area since last August.
In that time, SGW has shot from a relatively small family-owned business with 30 staff turning over £7m to an integrated contractor employing 160 staff with forecast turnover this year of up to £40m.
The line-up of takeovers in the recession-hit north east includes Middlesbrough construction firm Crinson Liddle, CCS Waste Management and ETS (Engineering Test Services), both based in Hartlepool, as well as a groundworks contractor and a painting and decorating business.
Established in 1980, SGW is now active throughout the north east and Yorkshire areas carrying out works in the public and private sectors ranging up to £4m.
It has a particularly strong record of major school construction and refurbishment projects.
SGW director Chris Lakey said CFC’s established reputation in the social housing sector made the acquisition attractive.
“CFC has earned a lot of goodwill through successful contracts on behalf of local authorities and housing associations.
“Its acquisition provides us with a tremendous opportunity to better showcase the growing portfolio of construction-related services SGW can offer in what could potentially be a very important sector to the business.”
CFC specialises in anti-slip vinyls and wetroom flooring alongside standard carpet, flooring and tiling products.
