The hospital has already benefited from over £25m of Assembly Government funding to build a new multi-storey car park and to improve access roads and walkways.
Now Bam Construct will start this December and in the spring of next year on the key improvements to hospital buildings, which will include the replacement of the 1940s buildings on the Morriston site.
A critical part of the new development will be the new Outpatients’ Department, incorporating space on both the ground and first floors of the new build, totaling nearly 3,400 sq m.
Paul Stauber, ABM’s Director of Planning, said: “This is a very large investment for the Morriston Hospital site and will greatly improve the existing sub standard accommodation, replacing building constructed for World War II and the 1940s.
“The new Outpatients Department will be adjacent to the multi-storey car park, so patients will be able to park their cars and walk straight across to their clinic appointment.”
The Welsh Government approved the outline business case for the new developments in March, and a full business case will be submitted by the end of November, with building work hopefully commencing a few weeks later.
