The Government has budgeted £10m to £30m to carry out the work, which will assess the condition of around 23,000 education buildings across England over the next two years.
Local authorities and schools will have web access to the results to help prioritise capital investment.
The data collected will be used to provide evidence of the current condition of schools, and to develop the future funding mechanism for maintenance allocations based on the findings.
The job, which will be split into nine regional lots, is now out to tender offering opportunities for IT companies, and building and quantity surveyors, large and small, across the country.
Further details will be released at a bidders’ day to be held on 26 October in Westminster.
Anthony Walker, programme director, PfS said: “The requirement for local authorities and schools to submit condition data ceased to be mandatory in 2005.
“To ensure that future funding is effectively targeted to meet the condition need of the entire schools estate, the Government requires accurate, up-to-date and consistent data for all schools across the country.”
