The planning application to Croydon Council is for a 55-storey tower that would include a 217-bedroom four star hotel and 397 residential apartments.
It would also feature a café/bar, 160,000 sq ft of office space, a brasserie, coffee shop, branded restaurant and health club.
The site is a short distance away from the proposed 54-storey Menta development in Cherry Orchard Road, which was given the go-ahead in July.
If both schemes ever went ahead Croydon’s skyline would be dominated by its own twin towers.
Guildhouse chief executive David Hudson said: “The proposals for One Lansdowne Road will complement the existing regeneration strategy for the Croydon town centre, working with the other schemes that are already under way, to transform the town.
“As one of the largest London boroughs, Croydon is an area with a huge amount of potential. It benefits from exceptional transport links that make it an ideal location for regeneration and development,” he added.
A decision on the planning application is due to be made in January and, if approved, construction could start in 2013.
