Locally-based development team Citybranch and Pochin this week submitted a planning application to Trafford Council to seek approval for £10m new Altrincham Hospital.
The proposed hospital will be built on Railway Street in the heart of Altrincham town centre.
Citybranch director, Adam Gross, said: “We have been working closely with Central Manchester Foundation Trust and Trafford Healthcare Trust to develop plans for the new hospital.
“This is an extremely significant development for Altrincham and having waited almost 40 years, we want to ensure that the hospital meets the needs of local residents. We are delighted to be involved in bringing much needed state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the town.”
The new hospital will replace the existing facilities on Market Street and include an out-patients department, minor injuries unit, diagnostics, physiotherapy, staff support and training facilities.
The application proposes a four-storey hospital alongside a five-storey office building, with retail accommodation at ground level and 24 dedicated car parking spaces.
Jim Nicholson, director at Pochin, added: “Altrincham has no doubt been affected by the economic downturn and we hope that by bringing these modern facilities to Railway Street, the new hospital will help to change the way that local residents use the town and act as a catalyst for further regeneration in the area.
