Work to start next spring on £450m hospital

Construction work will start next spring on a new £450m hospital in Liverpool.

Local MP Louise Ellman confirmed the start date following a meeting with health minister Simon Burns yesterday.

She confirmed on her Twitter account: “Just had meeting with Health Minister Simon Burns.

“I’m reassured to hear that building of Liverpool Hospital is due to start March/April 2013, completed by Christmas 2016. This is great news for Liverpool.”

The start date is good news for the two bidders currently competing for the contract.

Carillion is up against the Horizon consortium of Interserve, John Laing and FCC.

The new PFI hospital will replace The Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
