Middlesex-based Lorne Stewart has saved four of M&E contractor Rotary’s regional businesses.

The deal – first predicted in the Enquirer daily newsletter this morning – will save 391 jobs but 146 people have been made redundant at the Scottish, Northern and Irish businesses which were not part of the sale and have been wound-up.

Lorne Stewart – through its subsidiary 4th Utility Ltd – is now owner of:
Rotary North West Ltd – Chester office
Rotary Yorkshire Ltd – Leeds
Rotary Southern Ltd – London
C A Sothers Ltd- Birmingham

One insider told the Enquirer: “It’s taken the senior management some time to work through each company.

“C A Sothers looks a particularly good catch because it has a good order book, but Lorne Stewart felt Scotland and Ireland just looked like they had no real prospects going forward.

The deal will strengthen £160m turnover Lorne Stewart’s coverage in England. The building services contractor operates from around 20 depots, which are mainly located in the south.

The final price tag is expected to be well below the £100m Rotary fetched when it was sold by the founding Jennings family to Australian Hastie Group four years ago.
