Amey has been Calderdale’s highways maintenance and street lighting provider since May 2000.

The latest deal starts in October with the option to extend for up to 15 years.

The contract involves the maintenance of 1,100km of road, 36,000 street lights as well as providing drainage, winter maintenance and emergency highway operations.

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey said: “Over the past 12 years we have developed a strong relationship with the council and have worked hard to integrate ourselves into the borough.

“We look forward to continuing our contract and improving the transport network for the people of Calderdale.”

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said: “Every penny counts in Calderdale and it is important that we negotiate the very best deal that we can on every contract.

“I am pleased that we have been able to secure a contract with one of the country’s leading providers of public services at a price that reflects the need to spend public money in a prudent and cost-effective way.”
