The Enquirer understands that tube bosses are considering plans to enter into direct relationships with trade contractors with consultants running the work as delivery partners.
London Underground hope to cut costs by 25% using the new procurement system on its seven-year station upgrade programme.
It will act as construction manager alongside its chosen consulting team and work directly with trade contractors across the station schemes.
The Enquirer understands three teams of consultants are in the running for the delivery partner role.
Industry sources said they are: Jacobs with Nichols Group, Turner & Townsend with Aecom and Arup and EC Harris with CH2M Hill and Initiate.
