The £20m turnover firm employs around 80 staff who are now waiting to hear about their fate after KPMG took control yesterday.
Chris Pole and Richard Philpott of KPMG are acting as joint administrators.
A management buy-out of the firm took place in 2008.
Before that the business had been in the Hilton family for over a hundred years. It specialises in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of a wide variety of types of M&E systems.
Hiltons worked across the country for several main contractors including Overbury Construction on jobs typically worth up to £2m. It specialised mainly in HVAC work,
Sister company Hilton Canon, which carries out electrical engineering, is believed to be continuing to trade normally.
