The plan, will involve demolishing Crown House – once voted one of Britain’s most hated buildings – to deliver a new square with more shops and restaurants at Weavers Wharf.
A planning application is being prepared and is due for submission to Wyre Forest District Council by the end of the year.
Pending approval, work is likely to start in mid-2014 and complete in Summer 2016.
The proposed 30,000 sq ft Weavers Wharf extension will add an additional 9% of floor space to the 325,000 sq ft retail park.
Weavers Wharf plan
• A new anchor shop 2,782 sq m
• 3 restaurants next to the canal
• 1 café/retail unit overlooking the new square
• A new bridge over the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal to provide access to Matalan directly from Weavers Wharf retail park
Martin Perry, Director of Retail Development at Henderson, said: “These plans will breathe new life in to this part of Kidderminster, expanding the boundaries of the city centre and adding a quality new development for residents.”
