The new hub building will form the centrepiece of a new business park, called Infinity Park, near Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace division between Chellaston and Sinfin.
A four-way partnership between Derby City Council, Aston University, Cranfield University and the University of Derby selected the local contractor ahead of rival Bowmer & Kirkland which was also bidding the job.
Construction work on the Innovation Centre is set to begin in spring next year and expected to take a year to complete.
Andy Sewards, director at G F Tomlinson, said: “The centre will be a truly pioneering new building.
“The design, with its curved nature, embraces the characteristics of transport engineering, using high-quality metal cladding that reflects the materials traditionally used in the industry.
“This will be a truly iconic building to boost the area’s reputation even further as a centre of excellence in transport engineering.”
