The Newry-based group specialises in the refurbishment of cruise liners but also works on hotels, office and retail projects.
Earlier this week, administrators formally announced Mivan had ceased trading with the loss of 242 jobs. But the MJM deal means that the Mivan brand will now continue.
Brian McConville, Chairman of MJM Group, said: “We are delighted that we were able to rescue the Mivan brand and bring it into the MJM Group of companies.
There are obvious synergies between the two operations, which will allow us great efficiencies and economies of scale.
Initially we expect to create 40 to 50 jobs in Antrim from the existing local skilled workforce and we believe that, by implementing the efficient work practices that have underpinned our growth to date, we can drive the Mivan brand back to its former glory.”
“MJM have built up a strong reputation as a global player in the industry and there’s exciting opportunities ahead to re-establish the Mivan brand in some existing markets and new international markets,” added McConville.
MJM Group intends to operate Mivan as a separate entity.
MJM Group has worked across the world and earned a reputation for its fast-track project management style.
Projects in the office and retail sector successfully completed by MJM include the Victoria Square Retail Centre in Belfast, Harrod’s in London, the University of Edinburgh and Dublin International Airport.
In London MJM has dome fit-outs for The Mandarin Oriental, The Bulgari Hotel, The W Hotel and The Lancaster Hotel.
