Property developer and builder Downing aims to build 701 student rooms in two 10-storey buildings, alongside the River Kelvin.
Designed by architects, Falconer Chester Hall, the project will form part of the wider Glasgow harbour masterplan and is due to complete in time for new academic year in September 2015.
Paul Houghton from Liverpool-based Downing said: “Glasgow is an exciting city with a burgeoning student population and we’re delighted to be making strides on this ambitious scheme, which will revitalise this area and help to address the pressing need for quality student accommodation in the city.
“As one of the UK’s biggest student accommodation providers, we’re invested in ensuring our schemes offer the very best in terms of quality and location and provide students with a home from home – helping them to make the most of their university experience.”
Downing is currently delivering £200m worth of schemes, including a phased development in Newcastle, the Central Village student accommodation scheme in Leeds, and four projects which are currently on site in Cambridge and Liverpool.
The firm often uses H E Simm & Son as its M&E contractor.
