The contract is worth around £3m annually and will run for five years with an option for a two-year extension.

FM Conway was the incumbent highways contractor and has been working with Lewisham since 1999.

The latest deal starts in April and will see FM Conway deliver highway maintenance and planned road works throughout the borough including emergency works, gully cleansing, winter services and footway works.

Deputy Mayor of Lewisham and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Alan Smith, said: “Despite our current budgetary pressures, Lewisham Council is committed to investing in its highways network.

“This new contract with FM Conway accounts for a significant percentage of that investment, and will help the Council to keep Lewisham moving until close to the end of the decade.”
