The government-backed National Biologics Manufacturing Centre will be built in Central Park, Darlington to develop cutting-edge medicines.
Work is expected to start in April on the three to four-storey building project containing laboratories and clean rooms.
David Flewker, Regional Director at Interserve said “We have operated in the Tees Valley for nearly 60 years and this strategically important facility will enhance the reputation and status of the region as a world leader in this field.”
The 40,000 sq ft centre is designed as a large open access facility to help companies of all sizes to develop, prove, prototype and scale up the next generation of biologic products, processes and technology.
The contract, awarded by The Centre for Process Innovation, is expected to take 15 months.
