The improptu kick-around took place on the roof of the Hotel Football project next to Old Trafford during a site visit from United’s Class of ’92, who are backing the project.
Hard hats and high-vis yellow jackets were used as goalposts during the impromptu lunch-break game on the unfinished five-a-side pitch on the roof of the building.
The 133-bedroom Hotel Football project is the brainchild of Giggs and Gary Neville and is due to open in October. Scholes, Butt and Phil Neville are also now understood to have invested in the scheme.
The 16m by 12m pitch will be built with a retractable roof and be available for use by anyone wishing to play at the top of the ten-storey building, including non-residents.
United fan Rob Lowe from Warrington was one of the workers who got the chance to play in the kickabout.
A design co-ordinator for Galliford Try, he said: “It certainly wasn’t your typical day at work.
“We’ve all watched and admired these players over the years, so it was great to have a match against them.
“We may not have the skills of players they’re used to facing, but I still think we put up a good show.”
