Designed by architect Hopkins to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, the three-storey building is set around a curved central atrium that brings natural light to its core.

Other facilities including research and teaching laboratories, offices, lecture theatres, a café and library will be located in two wings either side of the main building. 

Phase one of the building work is due to start shortly and comprise around 3,660 m² of development.

Phase two will involve another 3,293 m² of construction, with the project due to complete in 2015.

Laing O.Rourke is presently midway through construction of the £273m main Alder Hey hospital project.
