Barr wants subcontractors for Bristol City stadium

Barr Construction is looking for local subcontractors to help with the £45m Ashton Gate Stadium rebuild project in Bristol.

The contractor is linking-up with Constructionline and Bristol Sport to host an event at the current stadium on Thursday.

More than 50 contracts are available ranging from construction to fit out, from interiors to exteriors including scaffolding, plastering, turnstiles and seating on the new home of Bristol City FC and Bristol Rugby Club.

Mike Henderson, project manager at Barr Construction said: “We have significant experience of delivering state-of-the-art sporting facilities for clients all over the UK and we are confident local contractors will see this as a great opportunity to become involved in an interesting construction challenge.

“At Barr, we are committed to giving opportunities to local businesses wherever possible and the upcoming event will allow us to meet with south west contractors and discuss how our activities in Bristol can benefit them.”

Martin Griffiths, chairman of Bristol Sport, which is managing the rebuild added: “It is a great opportunity for Bristol businesses to get involved.

“We want local people to benefit from this multi-million pound project. It is estimated that up to 400 job opportunities will be created during the two-year build.

“We hope lots of local contractors come and talk to Barr about the possibilities ahead.”

The event will be held at Dolman Exhibition Hall, Ashton Gate Stadium, Ashton Road, from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday 30 October.

The scheme to rebuild Ashton Gate consists of three separate phases.

The first phase is underway with the construction of a new 6000-seater South Stand. Phases two and three will see the Dolman and Williams stands rebuilt.

The completed stadium will have a capacity of 27,000 with new conference facilities, administration offices, sports bar, cafe and shops created.
