The existing framework structure is being revised to separate out housing and public building specialisms across regions in the North East.
Under the existing building framework seven firms have places. These include Balfour Beatty, Esh Construction, Galliford Try, Graham Construction, Interserve, ISG and Kier.
By April this year around 17 projects worth £77m had been let through the panel of firms.
Under the revised set-up with increased scope many more builders of varying sizes will get the opportunity to secure a place.
At least six firms will be appointed for the nine lots coming out to bid.
