Training insiders have been speaking to the Enquirer following the launch of the latest push to solve the skills shortage by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
One said: “This is another opportunity for colleges to baffle a team of people with a futuristic bid.
“I’m sure everyone mentions BIM but none actually deliver the required training.
“Most people involved in this have no construction experience which is the real problem.”
Another added: “Training in London needs to address the RC Frame , Building Envelop, Groundworks and Finishings sectors but none of the colleges deliver these trades.
“We’ll become an embarrassment in regards to training unless we’re honest and say Further Education Colleges are 20 years behind industry and lack the right tutors.
“They all churn out the same biblical trades with very little interest in modern methods of construction.
“The whole system needs stripping back and given to the industry – and I mean Tier 2 not Tier 1 contractors.”
