Wright joined Kier when it bought Mouchel in 2015, where Wright spent over 10 years at the EnterpriseMouchel Highway Services business.
Joe Incutti, Kier Highways finance director, will act as group managing director until a permanent successor is appointed.
A Kier spokesperson said: “Following a very successful career in the highways industry, Dave Wright has made the decision to retire from full-time employment and will be leaving the business on 30 September.
“We wish Dave all the best in his retirement and thank him for his significant contribution to the group.”
Wright steered Kier into the SMART motorways sector securing in joint venture with Carillion the M6 junctions 16-19 project, now finished.
Since then Kier has secured more work taking M6 junctions 13-15, M23 junctions 8-10 and M20 junctions 3-5.
