The £40m design and build project includes preliminary design and construction of two schemes for the A40 Llanddewi Velfrey to Penblewin Improvements and the A40 Penblewin to Redstone cross improvements.

The current road through the Llanddewi Velfrey has a 40mph speed limit, with few places for overtaking.

It will involve building just over 6km of new trunk road, one new roundabout, two new T-junctions and two overbridges.

Carillion was originally earmarked for the scheme two years ago. Following the firm’s liquidation, Arup  was employed to finalise the outline design and is taking the scheme through planning.

Construction is expected to start in summer 2021 and finish in autumn 2022
