Four firms have secured Anglian Water’s £350m eight-year Strategic Pipeline Alliance.

Costain, Farrans, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald Bentley will work together to support Anglian Water in delivering sustainable growth and resilience of its network.

Anglian Water has ambitious plans to create a series of up to 500km of interconnecting pipelines and associated infrastructure to move water from areas of surplus in Lincolnshire down to the drier south and east of the region.

Strategic Pipeline Alliance Director, James Crompton, said: “The programme will make it possible to reduce the amount of water taken from the environment, as well as strengthening resilience by reducing the number of homes and businesses which rely on a single water source.

“It will be a complex and challenging major infrastructure development. It presents an exciting opportunity for these civil engineering, design and construction experts and we’re delighted to have four such prestigious partners on board.”

As part of the alliance, Costain will provide a range of integrated services including strategic programme management, digital technology expertise and complex programme delivery for the supply-side strategy of Anglian’s Water Resources Management Plan.

This will include building a digital twin of the physical assets, allowing Anglian Water to optimise its management of the water network for more efficient operations and maintenance.

The framework contract win follows Costain’s appointment to Yorkshire Water’s Technical Services Framework under the latest AMP 7 awards.

Alex Vaughan, CEO of Costain, said: By bringing together and integrating our programme management consultancy, digital twin expertise and complex programme delivery capabilities, Costain, as part of this newly formed alliance, will help Anglian Water as it strategically addresses the challenges it faces in this dry region.”
